English & Fishing

If you would truly like to unwind after a morning’s language study there’s nothing better than sitting by one of Bute’s beautiful lochs (lakes) in the afternoon fishing for trout, perch or pike. You can choose to sit on the banks of the loch or you can fish from a rowing boat.

Our English and Fishing courses offer the perfect combination of daily language study with fishing on an executive 1-to-1 or mini-group basis. Additionally, all of our English and Fishing options are available on a year-round basis.

Each of our English and Fishing courses is individually tailored around your requirements, so you choose where and when you fish: mornings, afternoons, or a combination of both.

Following a detailed pre-course needs analysis and language audit, we will present you with a draft training programme. Course content is entirely flexible and can range from general communication skills to the highly specific.

Choose from the following course combinations:

Flexible Study Programme

You study from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. or from 2 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. We can also design an individualised self-study programme (e.g. development of listening, reading, writing skills, pronunciation, grammar) to complement your face-to-face classes.

You may also choose to arrange your English and Fishing package to have one day of English tuition followed by one day of fishing. This can often be a good solution on days when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Following your daily pub/restaurant lunch, you will be transported to the loch of your choice where you will meet your personal ‘ghillie’, an experienced local angler, who will be at hand to take care of your every need including providing you with expert tuition and advice if required. We can also arrange for lochside gourmet picnic lunches. After each afternoon’s fishing, you will be transported back to your accommodation.

Sea and Loch Fishing on the Isle of Bute

Trout

Loch Fad, surrounded by wooded hills, is home to both rainbow and brown trout. It has been classified by Scottish Natural Heritage as a site of special scientific interest for its scenic beauty and its huge diversity of bird life and vegetation. It offers both fly fishing from boat or bank and bait, and spinning angling from bank only.

For wild and stocked brown trout fly fishing, Loch Quien is an excellent choice, being easily accessible, as well as quiet and beautiful.

Coarse Fishing

For coarse fishing, Lochs Ascog and Greenan are ideal choices. Loch Ascog will provide you with large pike, as well as perch, while the Greenan Loch offers carp, tench, bream and roach.

Salmon Fishing

We chauffeur you into the beautiful and rugged Scottish highlands for an afternoon of salmon fishing.

Your Delaso English and Fishing course comes with an optional one-day excursion to places of interest such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ayr and Loch Lomond. However, should you wish us to arrange for you to spend the day fishing at any location on the West Coast of Scotland instead, just let us know and we’ll do the rest.

Once-in-a-liftetime Fishing

Have you ever wanted to try your hand at blue shark (July - August) or blue-fin tuna (September - November) fishing? You’ll speed from the Isle of Bute to the Irish Coast where you will fish for sharks or tuna and, hopefully, land your own. En route, you can relax and take in the wildlife which, depending on the season, will include porpoises, dolphins, basking sharks and even Minkie whales. Your journey takes you past the largest gannet colony in Europe and you will also see puffins and seals.

This luxury, full-day option is not included in our English & Fishing course costs. An additional cost of £600 per person (individual charter)/£300 per person (mini-group charter) for this unique experience would be charged. This includes a day aboard your private Wildcat 39 Fast Catamaran, lunch and refreshments on board, as well as hire of specialist equipment.
